An open letter to Western New York on the loss of Ramblin’ Lou Schriver:

It was with great sadness that we at Western New York Independent Living learned of Ramblin’ Lou’s passing in the media.

For nearly three decades, Ramblin’ Lou has supported the work of Independent Living in educating and empowering the region’s citizens with disabilities by offering us a voice each week on the airwaves of WXRL-AM.  Thanks to his willingness to make us a part of his broadcast family, individuals with disabilities and their extended families learned that they had options in services and activities at our agencies and others that could improve their quality of life.

Ramblin’ Lou was an institution in Western New York broadcasting and the country music scene, and we were fortunate to be able to know him; he will be greatly missed.

We extend our greatest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to his family and friends.  We’re sure Ramblin’ Lou is keeping the angels high-steppin’ and the saints’ toes tappin’ where he is now.
