More about VESIDThe Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) provides vocational rehabilitation and employment services to assist people with disabilities with obtaining employment. People who receive SSI or SSDI or have a diagnosed disability may be eligible for support with job preparation, training, or required adaptive technology to achieve an individualized employment goal. Application Process 1. Call the Buffalo VESID Office @ 848-8001 to schedule an orientation session. 2. Attend the orientation and complete the application. Have the medical form completed by the appropriate professional. 3. Submit completed medical form and completed application to Buffalo VESID Office @ 508 Main St Buffalo, NY 14202. 4. Once the application is reviewed, it will be assigned to a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor who will schedule an appointment with the applicant within 60 days. Services 1. Being assigned to a counselor takes at least 3 weeks and the counselor will send a letter with an initial appointment. If that date/time is not convenient, call to reschedule immediately because services cannot begin until the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and the applicant meet. 2. The initial meeting is critical because that is when the development of Individual Plan for Employment (IPE) begins. 3. The IPE includes a specific vocational goal and the VESID services that will be provided for achieving that employment goal. Once the individual and the VESID counselor agree on an employment goal, they will both sign the developed IPE and the individual will start receiving services. 4. Training, education, and equipment that are required for the employment goal may be funded by VESID. Student loans MUST be out of default status before new student loans can be received and before VESID can assist with education costs. click here for more information about Resolving Defaulted Student Loans |
