Service: Rehabilitation Teaching

Purpose:
To provide blind or visually impaired individuals with conceptual and experiential learning in adaptive communication and social skills that are necessary to obtain maximal levels of independence to live, learn, work and play.

Method:
1. Instruction will occur on a one-to-one basis. Instruction will be delivered in blocks of sessions (to be determined individually during evaluation).
2. Lecture, demonstrations, discussions, adapted aids, special projects, field trips, and contacts with experts in specific fields will be utilized.
3. Areas of rehabilitation that will be covered include: grooming, household chores, meal preparation, money management, emergency procedures, brailled reading and writing, non-visual mobility skills, and the effective use of adaptive equipment, hand controls, safety and custom designed and fitted devices.
