Service: Peer Counseling

Purpose:
To assist in the personal adjustment of a person's disability and maximize community participation.

Method:
1. To aid persons with disabilities in identifying life goals, objectives and values utilizing the personal and/or professional background of trained staff and consultants.
2. A Peer Counselor meets with the person with a disability to discuss similar problems, share experiences, propose potential resolutions to problems, and assist in individual advocacy.
3. Group counseling (limited to five participants) addressing specific subjects such as assertiveness, the concerns of teenagers with a disability, or vocational exploration.
