Are you ready for the total eclipse on April 8?
Your Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service gives thousands of people throughout Western New York and Southern Ontario who are blind or have a print disability daily access to a variety of print publications.
Since 1987, your Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service has broadcast more than 250,000 hours of reading material to thousands of Listeners. Long regarded as one of the nation’s finest radio reading services for the blind, your Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service has compiled a track record of exemplary efficiency, productivity, and excellence.
It’s almost impossible to imagine not being able to read, but there are as many as 60,000 people who are blind or have a print disability in WNY and Southern Ontario. Some of our friends & neighbors have never had the ability to read, others lost the ability due to age, accidents, or medical conditions.
Cut off from the newspapers, magazines and books that most of us take for granted, we need to find another way to share the contents of these materials.
Your Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service was founded in 1987 as a private, not-for-profit agency to provide these solutions. And our recent affiliation with WNY Independent Living gives us access and insight to the information & resources we need to fulfill our mission.
Our broadcasts are transmitted over a subcarrier radio frequency, provided at no charge by Buffalo Toronto Public Radio and WNED 94.5FM, to special receivers that are loaned to registered listeners.
We also transmit over the Internet to computers, mobile phones and smart speakers. Many of our programs are available on demand as podcasts – so listeners can listen to what they want, when they want, and how they want!
