Advocacy
Add voice to those who need an extra voice to be heard in order to get what you want and to be understood by the one you are communicating with.

Benefits Advisement
A service provided by staff who have taken and passed the Cornell University Benefits Advisement Certification, which assist individuals with mental health disabilities maximize community resources and benefits available in order to return to work and not suddenly lose benefits.

Financial Literacy
MHPC Peers are trained in financial literacy and can assist others with mental health issues get out of the poverty trap by understanding a few key concepts of money management and finances.

Housing Assistance
MHPC Peers have had their own struggles in obtaining safe, affordable housing. Our Peers, because of their experience, can show others with mental health issues the ropes to navigating the housing market, specific-targeted housing, filling out applications and negotiating with landlords in order to achieve safe affordable housing.

Independent Living Plans (ILP)
Everyone who comes to MHPC gets the opportunity to develop at least one Independent Living Plan, with the Peer they are working with, to determine what goals the individual would like to obtain while receiving services at MHPC and take the steps needed to obtain that or those goals.

Independent Living Skills
Often times people with mental health issues have difficulty with learning and implementing daily tasks that are needed to live as independently as possible in the community. Our MHPC Peers teach and role model skills needed to achieve independent living, such as learning how to budget, houseclean, do laundry, and travel throughout the community.

Information and Referral
MHPC Peers provide a wealth of information on all known services available to help someone with mental health issues to maximize full community involvement and can refer individuals to specific services one chooses to explore.

Peer Counseling
Peer Counseling is Peers sharing with one another on an equal basis their own experience with similar issues in order to overcome obstacles that get in the way of recovery and obtaining one’s hopes, dreams, and aspirations.

Peer Self-Help Groups
A small group of individuals sharing common struggles and challenges in order to empower each other to improve life and living situations.

Peer Support
Designed to provide support to individuals with a mental health diagnosis in achieving personal, and/or professional goals. These goals increase and improve their quality of life in the areas of mental and physical health, housing and community integration, daily needs, independent living skills and life management skills.

Person Centered Plans
Trained Peers assist those with mental health issues develop their own unique plan involving the individuals community, supports, and assets in order to obtain one’s hopes, dreams, and aspirations.

Quality of Life Self-Assessments
Two documents specifically developed for people with significant disabilities to identify what is important for the individual to work on in order to maximize community living.

Transition Services from Institution to the Community
Assist individuals in institutions, (hospitals, prison, structured living environment) smoothly adjust to living as independently as possible in the community without re-institutionalization.

Life Coaching
Designed to provide support to individuals with a mental health diagnosis in achieving personal, and/or professional goals. These goals increase and improve their quality of life in the areas of mental and physical health, housing and community integration, daily needs, independent living skills and life management skills.

Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP)
WRAP developed by Mary Ellen Copeland of the Copeland Center, is a unique toolbox for every individual to develop to prevent unforeseen crisis’ and challenges in one’s life.

Work Support Job Club
The "Job Club" is a program designed to assist people with mental health diagnosis in obtaining and maintaining employment in their community. Support Services are provided in assisting with developing interview skills, resume and cover letter writing, job searching, peer support, and life management. These employment supports have proven long term, positive outcomes for people with mental health diagnosis in the reduction of hospitalization, and increased mental and physical wellness.

Mission Statement:

Mental Health PEER Connection is an organization run for and by people with behavioral health disabilities, providing a person-centered approach to advocacy, peer counseling, transitional services, IL skill building, information and referral, and employment supports. MHPC fosters meaningful connections to enhance the quality of life for residents of Erie County. 

Vision Statement:

A peer-led organization facilitating community-based options for behavioral health recovery.
