Independent Living of the Genesee Region to Host Free Smart Phone and SIM Card Distribution Event
Independent Living of the Genesee Region (ILGR) will host a Free Smart Phone and SIM Card Distribution Event on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia.
This event will provide free smartphones and SIM cards to adults who are experiencing financial need. A limited number of devices are available and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
To qualify, participants must be:

18 years or older and meet one of the following criteria:

Receive support from the Department of Social Services (DSS), or
-
Have a valid, non-expired Medicaid card or award letter.

Applicants must also bring one of the following forms of identification:

A valid NYS ID, or
-
A benefit card with a photo, printed within the last five years, accompanied by a piece of mail that verifies their current address dated within the past year.
As an additional service, GenMobile will also help eligible residents access a 10% discount on their electric bills through National Grid or NYSEG. This discount program is available to anyone with an active electric bill—there is no income requirement—and participants should bring their most recent bill if they wish to apply.
